The Sutton Schools' Shared Selective Eligibility Test (SET) is an entrance examination used by a consortium of grammar and selective schools in the London Borough of Sutton, UK. This test is designed to assess the academic ability of children seeking admission into Year 7 (age 11) at participating schools.
Key Features of the SET
Participating Schools: The test is used by several prestigious grammar and selective schools in Sutton and Wallington, including:
Wilson's School (Boys)
Wallington County Grammar School (Boys)
Wallington High School for Girls
Nonsuch High School for Girls
Sutton Grammar School (Boys)
Format: The SET is a two-stage test:
Stage 1:
Covers Maths and English.
Multiple-choice format.
Acts as a filtering stage; not all students progress to Stage 2.
Stage 2:
Applies to specific schools (e.g., Nonsuch and Wallington Girls).
Includes more detailed assessments in Maths and Writing.
Purpose: The SET is used to identify academically gifted students and determine eligibility for admission into the participating schools. Each school may have additional criteria beyond the SET, such as catchment area considerations.
